Guided hike with Alberto, the proprietor, to the Three Churches

Directions

Duration: 2.5-3 hrs / Distance: 7.7 km / Difference in elevation: 432 metres

We travel by car as far as Barbian (an approx. 40 minute drive), where we park.
The route follows the waterfall trail through the forest; this section is rather steep.
Having reached the top there is a wonderful panoramic view of the waterfall and the Schlern to be enjoyed. The climb is always worth it.
The route now continues towards Dreikirchen (literally Three Churches), past lovely meadows with views into the Eisack Valley. This part of the hike is somewhat hilly. After arriving in Dreikirchen, we will treat ourselves to a small snack in the Drei Kirchen inn.
Afterwards we continue back towards the car park in Barbian.
The attraction of this hike is, of course, the spectacular Barbian waterfalls. They fall a total of 200 metres into the depths over a multitude of cascades. In addition to this, along the way there is plenty to see, for example the crooked tower of Barbian Church, which is said to be even more crooked than the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the hamlet of Dreikirchen with its three Gothic chapels that have been amalgamated to form a single church ensemble, built on the site of a pre-Roman spring sanctuary.
